The escalating violence near the Al-Rantisi Hospital and the Ophthalmology Center caused both to cease operations, forcing patients and staff to flee for safety, Ghebreyesus informed on his X profile.

The WHO chief underscored that the Al-Rantisi Hospital, which was attacked and damaged last week, is the only specialized pediatric center in Gaza, providing oncology, dialysis, respiratory care, and gastroenterology services for children.

He emphasized that the other health facility is the only one that offers specialized eye care.

We have repeatedly warned that even if hospitals are not attacked or subject to forced evacuation, violence in their neighborhoods can paralyze their operations, the WHO’s top official said.

Ghebreyesus warned that the most populated city in the coastal enclave is still home to hundreds of thousands of people as health centers begin to close their doors due to the airstrikes.
