Chinese Premier Li Qiang met with United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres to discuss cooperation in this regard, within the framework of the high-level dialogue currently taking place at the multilateral organization’s headquarters.
Li affirmed that China is willing to work with the United Nations and other parties to promote a fairer and more reasonable international governance system and contribute to world peace and development.
The prime minister noted that the UN has played an irreplaceable role over the last 80 years and assured that his country will always uphold the organization’s authority and promote dialogue and cooperation among States.
The head of Government warned that unilateralism and protectionism affect the global economy and delay the 2030 Agenda, and urged the international community, especially the Global South, to reject hegemony and strengthen development cooperation.
Li added that China will continue its high-level opening, share opportunities with other countries, and act as a stabilizer and driver of the global economy, while supporting a greater role for the UN in addressing climate change and the governance of artificial intelligence (AI).
Guterres thanked Xi’s message at the UN Climate Summit and stressed that the GGI responds to the international community’s demands to reform and improve the multilateral system.
