Cuban Parliament president to Vietnam on official visit

Hanoi, Sept 25 (Prensa Latina) The president of the Cuban National Assembly of People's Power (Parliament), Esteban Lazo, will make an official visit to Vietnam, where he will co-chair the Second Meeting of the Interparliamentary Cooperation Committee, the local Foreign Ministry announced.

During his visit from September 30 to October 5, Lazo will hold talks with his counterpart Tran Thanh Man, meet with high-level Vietnamese leaders, and carry out other important activities, specified Foreign Ministry spokesperson Pham Thu Hang.

The Cuban and Vietnamese parliaments, which maintain relations of friendship and close and substantive collaboration, established the Interparliamentary Cooperation Committee in April 2023, whose first meeting was held in Havana in September of last year, she stressed.

Furthermore, both legislative bodies carry out numerous activities to exchange information and experiences in the development and improvement of institutions and policies, as well as delegations, and coordinate and support each other in international organizations and multilateral forums, she added.

Thu Hang emphasized that “the traditional relations of special friendship between Vietnam and Cuba, as well as comprehensive bilateral cooperation, have been consolidated and developed extensively in multiple fields,” and high-level contacts are frequent. Within the framework of the “Vietnam-Cuba Friendship Year 2025,” bilateral cooperation in all areas gained momentum, especially in politics and diplomacy, defense, security, agriculture, energy, and biotechnology, she added.

Both sides, he said, have regularly and effectively carried out various consultation and cooperation mechanisms, such as the Theoretical Seminar between both Parties, the Intergovernmental Committee, the Vietnam-Cuba Interparliamentary Forum, and political consultations between the Ministries of Foreign Affairs.
