Syria expresses solidarity with Gaza and rejects Israeli aggression

New York, Sept 25 (Prensa Latina) Syrian President Ahmad Al-Shara expressed his country's unwavering solidarity with the Palestinian people in Gaza and strongly rejected the Israeli aggression against Syrian territory.

The president expressed this position during his address to the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly.

In his address to the plenary, Al-Shara recalled the suffering his nation has experienced during more than a decade of conflict and asserted that “the pain Syria has experienced is unwelcome for anyone,” which has generated deep empathy with the victims of war in other regions, especially in Palestine.

“We stand with the people of Gaza, their children and women, and all other peoples subjected to violations and aggression, and we demand an immediate end to the war,” Al-Shara stated.

The head of State denounced the continued Israeli threats since December 8, accusing Tel Aviv of attempting to take advantage of his country’s internal transition to escalate regional tensions.

According to Al-Shara, these actions contradict the international stance of support for Syria and its people and threaten to drag the Middle East into a spiral of new conflicts with no clear end in sight.

The Syrian president reiterated his government’s commitment to a peaceful path through dialogue and diplomacy, in adherence to the 1974 Disengagement Agreement, and called on the international community to respect Syria’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.
