The event for this latest initiative was officially launched at the municipal stadium in Idlib, the capital of the homonymous province, which was attended by Syrian President Ahmad Al-Shara and prominent economic and popular figures.
The initiative aims at the comprehensive reconstruction of Idlib, severely affected by more than a decade of war, with priority given to the rehabilitation of schools, health centers, and hospitals; together with water and sewage networks, reconstruction of mosques and bakeries, as well as the lighting and maintenance of road infrastructure.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, Ahmed Al-Zeir, the campaign’s official spokesperson, reported that one million displaced people are currently living in more than one thousand camps in the province.
The damage includes more than 250,000 destroyed homes, 800 damaged schools, and 437 mosques, he explained.
Al-Zeir specified that at least three billion dollars are needed for the complete reconstruction of the region, and emphasized that the campaign is governed by the principles of transparency and public management.
All contributions will be audited and presented in periodic reports. The fund will be under the direct administration of the Idlib Governorate, he noted.
