UN in its fifth day, Cuba takes the podium

United Nations, Sept 27 (Prensa Latina) Twenty-eight speakers will take the podium on the fifth day of the High-Level Segment of the 80th Session of the UN General Assembly, among them Cuba's voice.

Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez, who heads the island’s delegation to the United Nations, will speak on Saturday morning, but the four letters of the country he represents have been mentioned countless times in displays of solidarity.

Yesterday alone, nearly a dozen countries expressed their support of Cuba, among them the Prime Minister of Barbados, Mia Mottley.

“Cuba has always been a source of support for many people around the world in times of conflict, health crises, and colonial resistance, especially in Africa,” she said.

However, Cuba has paid a high price for insisting on its right to self-determination, she said.

Once again, we must be willing to engage in dialogue to end the disproportionate suffering and deprivation being imposed on Cuban society by what is now globally viewed as an unjust embargo and other unilateral coercive measures, the dignitary added.

“Barbados reiterates its call for an end to the embargo and for Cuba to be removed from the list of state sponsors of terrorism. This is unjust.”
