The Argentine-Cuban Friendship House in Buenos Aires hosted the celebration until after midnight, presided over by the traditional “Caldoza” (a traditional soup dish) and attended by URCA members, local friends of Cuba, and staff from the island’s state mission.
In the celebration they signed a letter in support of Venezuela in the face of the military threats by Trump administration, which has deployed a powerful naval unit in the Eastern Caribbean.
Erenia Garcia, URCA president, who remembered the creation of the CDRs on September 28, 1960, announced by historic Cuban leader Fidel Castro, noted that “Today the CDRs continue to be part of the Revolution’s organizational apparatus, adapted to different times but with an essence of defense, mobilization, and popular participation.”
In her speech she remembered that the UN General Assembly will soon submit for debate and vote, once again, a resolution condemning the criminal economic, commercial, and financial blockade imposed by the US government against Cuba.
Garcia said that last year the international forum’s resolution to end the blockade received 187 votes in favor, while only the United States and Israel voted against it, as has almost always been the case since it was first introduced in 1992.
“This result represents a resounding diplomatic victory, as it reaffirms that the blockade policy is increasingly isolated internationally and is rejected in global forums as a form of aggression against the Cuban people,” she concluded before reaffirming URCA’s condemnation of Washington’s hostile policy toward the island.
