The Jordanian foreign minister’s position, reported by the Petra news agency, was expressed within the framework of the ministerial meeting of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), held on the sidelines of the 80th session of the UN General Assembly.
During his remarks, Safadi warned that repeated Israeli violations pose a grave threat to regional and international peace and security.
He also reiterated the Hashemite Kingdom’s commitment to the protection of Islamic and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem, and highlighted the Hashemite Custody as a central element under the leadership of King Abdullah II.
On the sidelines of the OIC session, Safadi held several bilateral meetings with his international counterparts and officials.
With Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, he addressed the urgent need for an immediate and lasting ceasefire in Gaza, a prisoner exchange agreement, and unrestricted humanitarian access to the Strip.
They also discussed the regional implications of Israeli policies in the West Bank.
