Five Spanish ministers reject Gaza plan

Madrid, Sept 30 (Prensa Latina) The five Spanish ministers of the Sumar group rejected the United States peace plan to end Israel's aggression in Gaza, clearly distancing themselves from the Socialists.

Contrary to the views expressed by Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez and his Foreign Minister, the Sumar coalition stated that Donald Trump’s initiative, in collusion with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, is an imposition, an attempt to consolidate the status quo of occupation and violence, and legitimizes Israel’s impunity.

The evident clash with the majority Socialist party in the Executive is led by Second Vice President and Minister of Labor Yolanda Diaz, along with the Ministers of Culture Ernest Urtasun; Monica Garcia, Health; Sira Rego, Youth and Children; Pablo Bustinduy, Social Rights and the 2030 Agenda.

Diaz was blunt in a video, asserting that Trump’s plan does not seek peace but rather “perpetuates the occupation” and “consolidates Israel’s impunity.”

Accompanied by her colleagues, the vice president indicated that the US president’s proposal was made “without considering Palestine” and “proposes turning Gaza into a protectorate under the tutelage of the United States, with Israel setting the pace.”

“The Palestinian population has been under genocide for almost two years (…) and now they are being offered a new Gaza controlled from outside, with Israeli troops occupying areas indefinitely. That is not peace, it is perpetuating the occupation,” she stated.

Sumar representatives stated that it is deeply concerning that attempts are being made to resolve this conflict without considering the Palestinians, the role of their legitimate institutions, and the United Nations framework.

They also considered that a genuine peace process must adhere to international law, justice, and full recognition of the Palestinian State.
