Such cancellations generate additional costs of approximately 1.3 billion euros for German companies, according to calculations by the travel and expense platform TravelPerk.
The lion’s share, about 1.1 billion euros, corresponds to additional expenses such as accommodation, transportation, meals and overtime for the nearly one million people affected per year. Some 200 million euros are costs resulting from rebookings.
Travel disruptions have become commonplace in Germany, said Eugen Triebelhorn of TravelPerk.
He added that they have long since ceased to be just an organizational or financial issue.
Triebelhorn explained that they are also a problem for companies, as every missed meeting can mean a deal is scuttled.
