Dominican Communist Labor Party against Summit exclusions

Santo Domingo, Oct 1 (Prensa Latina) The Communist Labor Party (PCT) condemned the Dominican government's recent decision to exclude Cuba, Nicaragua, and Venezuela from the Summit of the Americas, to be held in Punta Cana next December.

The organization considered this act a “shameful act of political servility and flagrant obedience to the dictates and interests of US imperialism.”

Its secretary general, Manuel Salazar, maintained that Luis Abinader’s administration betrays the historic tradition of solidarity and brotherhood that has always characterized the Dominican people with the peoples of Latin America and the Caribbean.

He remembered that the Dominican Republic knows the costs of imperialist aggression because it was invaded by the United States in 1965.

In this regard, he emphasized that, in those crucial moments, international solidarity was vital, with the peoples of the region—including those the government today excludes—those who offered their support to the cause of our sovereignty, he stated.

“History does not forgive a lack of decorum. The current government not only acts against the interests of national sovereignty, but also violates the spirit of integration and mutual respect that should govern relations between the countries of the region,” the political leader noted.

Salazar urged the popular and democratic sectors of the nation to organize a forceful and massive response that demonstrates the feelings of the Dominican majority against this government decision and, at the same time, reaffirms that the position of the people is not one of servile obedience, but one of dignity.
