Havana, Oct 3 (Prensa Latina) President Miguel Diaz-Canel expressed his willingness to continue expanding bilateral relations with Laos upon receiving the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the People's Democratic Republic, Thongsavanh Phomvihane, the Cuban Foreign Ministry reported.

During the meeting, the head of state, who described the presence of the Asian country’s foreign minister as “further evidence of the excellent state of our ties,” emphasized that this visit marks “a milestone in the shared will of both parties to continue expanding and strengthening the ties that unite us.”

The Cuban president also remembered his recent trip to Laos, which he described as “a very fruitful moment,” during which he held meetings with the highest authorities of the Asian country.

“A good consensus was reached on how we can continue to expand ties between both nations,” he emphasized, while recalling that the foundations of this relationship are based on “the close friendship” between Laotian National Hero Kaysone Phomvihane and the historic leader of the Revolution, Fidel Castro.

For his part, Minister Thongsavanh Phomvihane expressed his gratitude for the warm welcome given by the Cuban authorities and emphasized that this is his first visit to the island since assuming the position of Foreign Minister.

The diplomat highly valued the Cuban president’s recent visit to Laos, while reiterating his country’s firm commitment to “continue strengthening the relations that exist between both nations.”

According to the official website of the Cuban Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the presence of the Laotian head of diplomacy in the Caribbean country “ratifies the priority that both nations give to their historical ties” and underscores “the shared willingness to continue working to strengthen cooperation in all areas of mutual interest.”
