Dominican immigration evaluates deported Haitian children at clinic

Santo Domingo, Oct 5 (Prensa Latina) The Dominican Republic's General Directorate of Immigration (DGM) has strengthened medical care for illegal Haitian minors at the Haina Immigration Processing Center's clinic prior to their return, the institution reported.

Under the coordination of Lieutenant Colonel Dr. Geneeve Chahede, head of the Medical Unit, the institution guarantees care for children and adolescents who enter the center on a temporary basis.

Chahede explained that, upon arrival at the facility, the children are evaluated to determine their physical and emotional state, as well as their family support status.

In cases where legal guardianship of the adult present is not confirmed, care is provided under the supervision of the National Council for Children and Adolescents (CONANI).

In emergency situations, minors are transferred in coordination with hospitals that guarantee the continuity of medical treatment even after their release from the center, she specified.

These actions are carried out by the DGM in coordination with Conani, the health sector, and other national and international organizations.
