Nobel Prize in Physics to be announced in Stockholm

Stockholm, Oct 7 (PL) The Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences will announce the winner of the Nobel Prize in Physics, a distinction awarded by the entity since 1901 to researchers with relevant contributions to society.

Created by the Swedish scientist Alfred Nobel (1833-1896), creator of dynamite, since its foundation the Nobel Prize has distinguished hundreds of personalities in exact sciences, physiology and medicine, as well as in literature, politics, economics, psychology and sociology.

As is customary every year, the scientific community expects the announcement of these awards in the first week of October.

In 2024, the American John Hopfielg and the British Geoffrey Hinton won the award for their foundational discoveries and inventions that have enabled machine learning with neural networks.

No Latin American in this discipline has won the award, while the United States leads the list of most prizes awarded, followed by Germany and the United Kingdom.

As a curious fact, the American John Bardeen (1908-1991) is the only two-time winner of the Nobel Prize in Physics, in 1956 and 1972. Polish Marie Curie (1867-1934) won it in two disciplines, physics in 1903 and chemistry in 1911.
