Syrian and Turkish Foreign Ministers reaffirm strategic alliance

Ankara, Oct 8 (Prensa Latina) The Foreign Ministers of Syria, Asaad Hasan Al-Shaibani, and Turkiye, Hakan Fidan, reaffirmed in Ankara the political will of both governments to strengthen bilateral cooperation, as well as their commitment to regional stability.

At a joint press conference held in Ankara, the heads of Syrian and Turkish diplomacy agreed on the need to strengthen a strategic alliance that would allow for the consolidation of a common framework for talks, mutual respect, and shared interests.

Al-Shaibani affirmed that Syria categorically rejects any attempt at territorial fragmentation and reaffirmed that his nation remains steadfast as a sovereign and united state.

He also denounced the continued Israeli aggression and urged the international community to intervene to end these attacks, in compliance with the 1974 Disengagement Agreement.

Regarding the domestic dialogue process, the Syrian Minister reiterated the commitment to the March 10 Agreement and maintained that his country maintains an open stance toward reconciliation, although he lamented the lack of progress by the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), which he accused of failing to take concrete steps to implement the terms of the agreement.

For his part, Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan reiterated Ankara’s support for an inclusive political solution that guarantees Syria’s unity and stability, and warned that instability in that country negatively impacts the entire region, including Türkiye’s national security.
