Legañoa Alonso, 43, served as vice president of the Institute of Information and Social Communication at the time of his appointment.
A 2007 journalism graduate from the University of Havana, he has held various positions, including media specialist and analyst at the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba, deputy director of the Cuban News Agency from 2014 to 2018, and vice president of the Union of Cuban Journalists from 2018 to 2023.
As a communications professional, he has been a special correspondent at international events in several countries, particularly the talks between Cuba and the United States that led to the reestablishment of diplomatic relations in 2015.
A contributor to several press publications, Legañoa Alonso combines his leadership and professional activities. He also excels as an analyst on international issues, a commentator on the National Television Newscast, and the host of the political film program “Solo la Verdad” (Only the Truth).
He has completed postgraduate studies at the José Martí International Institute of Journalism in Havana, as well as public and business administration at the Higher School of State and Government Cadres of Cuba, and a diploma in Defense and National Security at the National Defense College.
Founded in June 1959, shortly after the triumph of the Cuban Revolution, Prensa Latina, with 67 years of uninterrupted work in the service of truth, has had as its main purpose to confront the hegemonic narrative of the large news monopolies and the media campaigns against the process led by Fidel Castro.
Every day, the news agency publishes around 300 varied materials and original content from its 39 offices around the world.
