Russia willing to hold regular consultations with Syria

Moscow, Oct 15 (Prensa Latina) Russia is willing to hold regular consultations with Syria at the foreign ministry level, President Vladimir Putin said on Wednesday during his talks with Syrian President Ahmad al-Sharaa at the Kremlin.

“Numerous interesting and useful initiatives were revealed, and we, for our part, are ready to do everything possible to implement them. In addition to the agreements, we will maintain regular contacts and consultations through the Foreign Ministry,” Putin said, according to the Kremlin press service.

The Russian president emphasized that “the relations between Russia and Syria have always been exceptionally friendly.”

He also described the holding of indirect parliamentary elections in Syria on October 5 as a “great success,” indicating that this step “helps consolidate the partnership.”

Putin also expressed satisfaction at seeing President Al-Sharaa in Moscow and asserted that ties between the two countries were never related to political circumstances or particular interests.

“Throughout these decades, we have always been guided by one reason: the interests of the Syrian people,” the head of State asserted.

Putin noted that more than four Syrian youth are currently studying at higher education institutions in the Russian Federation.

On December 8, 2024, Syrian armed opposition forces and the Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham group, formerly known as al-Nusra Front, seized the Syrian capital and proclaimed the overthrow of President Bashar al-Assad (2000-2024), thus culminating their offensive launched on November 27 from the country’s northwestern region.
