DRC has no new Ebola cases in two weeks

Kinshasa, Oct 16 (Prensa Latina) The Ministry of Health of the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) reported that the Ebola outbreak in Kasai province maintains a favorable trend, with no new cases reported in the last 17 days.

According to the agency, since the declaration of the health emergency in September, 53 confirmed patients have been reported, with 43 deaths, as well as 11 probable cases.

However, preventive measures, including the vaccination of more than 27,600 people, have led to positive developments in the fight against the disease, despite some logistical challenges, the ministry said in a statement.

The DRC government is addressing the Ebola outbreak with the collaboration of several institutions, including the World Health Organization (WHO), which helped set up a 32-bed treatment center in Bulape, the epicenter of the epidemic.

The site includes a two-bed infectious disease intensive care unit, providing lifesaving care to critically ill patients.

This is the first time the WHO has implemented this innovation, having previously only conducted simulations in Uganda and Ghana.
