Russia and Arab countries seek mutually acceptable date for summit

Moscow, Oct 19 (Prensa Latina) Mutually acceptable dates for the Russian-Arab summit are currently being determined, Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Vershinin informed.

“The decision to postpone it has already been made. We’re now determining the dates in a way mutually acceptable to both, us and our Arab friends,” the senior diplomat stated in an interview with the TASS news agency.

When asked if the summit could be held before the end of this year or early 2026, Vershinin responded that work is underway.

On October 9, Russian President Vladimir Putin and Iraqi Prime Minister Mohamed al-Sudani, the current chairman of the Arab League summit, agreed in a telephone conversation to postpone the Russian-Arab summit scheduled for October 15.

The Kremlin reported that the decision was due to the start of the active implementation phase of US President Donald Trump’s plan to normalize the situation in Gaza Strip.

In May, Putin invited all Arab League leaders to the summit. He expressed confidence that the Russian-Arab meeting would further strengthen the mutually beneficial multifaceted cooperation between the two countries and contribute to ensuring peace, security, and stability in the Middle East and North Africa.

Putin noted that most Arab leaders had accepted the invitation.
