Vatican opens a painting exhibition of noted Cuban Artists in Rome

Vatican City, Oct 19 (Prensa Latina) The Palazzo della Cancelleria, a Vatican building located in the center of Rome, is hosting the painting exhibition "Great Cuban Artists" today, featuring works by important Cuban cultural figures.

In his opening remarks, the Cuban ambassador to the Holy See, Rene Mujica, emphasized that this extensive exhibition, presented in the heart of the Italian capital, in a beautiful Vatican palace, was co-sponsored by the Dicastery for Culture and Education, the Bettini&Co Gallery, and the diplomatic mission.

He expressed his gratitude for the presence at the event held by Representative Indira Fajardo, who, in her capacity as president of the Cuban Music Institute (ICM), represented her country’s Ministry of Culture, as well as by the Cuban ambassador to Italy, Mirta Granda, and the Italian curator Eriberto Bettini.

He also highlighted the attendance of authorities and representatives of Vatican institutions, as well as members of the diplomatic corps accredited to the Holy See and Italy.

Mujica emphasized that this important exhibition, which will remain open to the public until November 2, is part of his country’s celebrations for Culture Day, celebrated every October 20, the date on which, in 1868, the piece that became Cuba’s National Anthem was sung for the first time.

Art critic Roberto Bussola, who hosted the event, highlighted, along with expert Luciano Caprile, who participated remotely, the privilege for the Vatican and Italy to display works by renowned Cuban painters such as Wifredo Lam, Alfredo Sosabravo, Alexis Leyva (Kcho), Roberto Fabelo, and Manuel Mendive.
