Bolivia’s film festival unites Latin America and the Caribbean

La Paz, Oct. 20 (Prensa Latina) The Colombian ambassador to Bolivia, Elizabeth Garcia, affirmed that the 21st Latin American and Caribbean Film Festival is an example of unity in diversity through the seventh art.

Upon officially inaugurating a program at Cinemateca in La Paz, on behalf of the Latin American and Caribbean Group (Grulac), which includes films from 13 nations in this region, she emphasized on the importance of artistic creation as a factor of unity.

Garcia expressed that the 13 selected films, representing the same number of countries, will be shown until the 30th of this month and reflect the cultural richness of the region and the potential of cinema as a vehicle for integration.

“The program is the result of Grulac’s collective work in the diversity that characterizes us,” Garcia said, who emphasized that the 21st Festival represents a special gift for Bolivia on the bicentennial of its independence.

In turn, the director of the Cinemateca, Mela Marquez, welcomed the large group of ambassadors and cultural advisors from Grulac who were present, as well as Carina Oroza, the Bolivian director of the film Casa del Sur, the film selected to open the exhibition.

Regarding the audience that filled the main hall of the Cinemateca, Marquez praised the exhibition and emphasized that each year “it makes us dream, unite, look at each other, and recognize ourselves in our stories and dreams.”
