Syria seizes large drug shipment in desert

Damascus, Oct 21 (Prensa Latina) Syrian authorities seized 12 million Captagon pills and 500 kilograms of hashish during a security operation in Badia desert region, east of this capital.

The Drug Control Department, in partnership with the Badia Security Directorate, conducted the operation after surveillance and intelligence efforts led to the location of a narcotics shipment destined for Jordanian territory.

Syria TV informed that the drugs were to be transported to Jordan by different methods, including shoulder-carrying or helium balloons, demonstrating the level of sophistication used by the smuggling networks.

Khaled Eid, Director of the Anti-Narcotics Department, stated that the operation took place in the Al-Dumayr area and emphasized that the leader of the network was arrested, while efforts continue to capture other involved parties.

In statements released by the Interior Ministry through its official social media account, Eid affirmed that these actions are part of a sustained strategy to wipe out illicit drug trafficking, dismantle its logistical networks, and bring those responsible to justice.

The new Syrian government intensified its actions against drug trafficking and conducted multiple operations in strategic areas, such as Daraa, Sweida, and the border crossings with Jordan and Lebanon, where remnants of these networks still operate.
