Authorities from that agency predict 109 calls in the port of Montevideo and 38 in Punta del Este, the country’s main beach resort, for the coming months, as well as revenues of $16 million.
Between October 2023 and April 2024, the port of this capital received 140 commercial calls and 22 technical calls, which was considered the best season for the Montevideo harbor.
In addition to the number of calls, the number of vessel stays in Montevideo increased, averaging 13 hours.
For the first time, last season, the country’s main port had the capacity to accommodate four cruise ships simultaneously.
The National Port Administration’s revenues for services and dock use reached $4.5 million.
According to Christian Pos, the National Director of Tourism, Uruguay is now seeking to consolidate its position as a strategic destination on the South American cruise circuit.
“It’s not just about the number of stops, but about offering quality, safety, and differentiated experiences for passengers,” he told Portal Marítimo.
