Gonzalez told Prensa Latina that preserving and restoring the nation’s film heritage is one of our strategic lines of work, a task we have been working on in Lyon and this capital over the last few days, due to the importance of developing ties with institutions responsible for managing and restoring films.
The audiovisual director stated that one of the highlights of her stay in France was the 17th Lumiere Festival in Lyon, where the film world celebrated from October 11 to 19, in the presence of leading figures, the effort to preserve and recover memory in cinematography.
We held several meetings there and contacted institutions such as the Bologna Cinematheque, one of the most renowned centers in Europe for archives and restoration, the director added.
The ICAIC vice president commented that efforts continued in Paris to seek ways for restoring Cuban films and adding films that are not in the institution’s archives.
Gonzalez highlighted the consolidation in Paris of ties with the National Audiovisual Institute (INA) and the exploration with the French National Center for Cinema and Animated Image (CNC) regarding the possibility of reaching co-production agreements.
The ICAIC vice president attended a cultural gala on Tuesday evening, celebrating Cuban Culture Week, which included the screening of the documentary “Mijain,” accompanied by Cuban Ambassador to France, Otto Vaillant, and Rolando Almirante, one of the filmmakers.
The film depicts the legend of wrestler Mijain Lopez, who achieved the unprecedented feat of five consecutive individual Olympic crowns in Paris 2024.
