Ethics Council in Brazil to open proceedings against deputies

Brasilia, Oct. 22 (Prensa Latina) The Parliamentary Ethics and Conduct Council of the Brazilian Chamber of Deputies will begin reviewing 11 complaints seeking to initiate proceedings against several legislators, including Eduardo Bolsonaro, son of former President Jair Bolsonaro.

The accusations were filed by parties such as the Liberal, Socialism and Liberty, Workers’ Party (PT), and Novo, and include figures from various political organizations.

Among the targets of the accusations are, along with Bolsonaro’s descendant, Guilherme Boulos, who recently assumed the position of Minister of the General Secretariat of the Presidency.

These complaints are the result of charges seeking to hold deputies accountable for statements and behavior considered inappropriate.

For example, since February, Eduardo Bolsonaro has faced a complaint from the PT for violating parliamentary decorum.

In a lawsuit signed by then-interim President Humberto Costa, the Workers’ Party (PT) accuses him of repeatedly defaming state institutions, with particular virulence against the Supreme Federal Court and its ministers, whom he publicly called militiamen in robes and dictators.

Along with blogger Paulo Figueiredo, the deputy was charged by the Attorney General’s Office with coercion during the trial of Bolsonaro Sr., who was ultimately sentenced to 27 years and three months in prison for attempted coup d’etat.
