National Emergency Response Drill to be Held in Colombia

Bogotá, Oct. 22 (Prensa Latina) Colombia will conduct the National Emergency Response Drill today, an exercise that will test the preparedness and response capacity of various entities and citizens in the face of natural events and catastrophes.

The operation, led by the National Unit for Disaster Risk Management (UNGRD), will take place in the nation’s 32 departments, where the protocols to follow regarding the risks looming in each of them will be tested.

The director of the entity, Carlos Carrillo, will be at the Ituango Hydroelectric Plant, one of the most strategic locations in the northwest of the country, where local authorities and communities will measure their response capacity in the face of a flood risk scenario.

According to reports, the 2025 National Simulation will also promote the strengthening of territorial risk management funds, the implementation of financial protection mechanisms against disasters, such as policies or insurance to cover assets and infrastructure, and the application of the protocol for caring for animals in emergency situations.

In the previous edition, more than 5.3 million people participated in 31 of the 32 departments, demonstrating the importance of collective preparedness for emergency situations, according to the UNGRD.

The organization asked the public, public and private entities, educational institutions, community organizations, and operational entities of the National Risk Management System to participate in the 14th edition of the exercise.
