Malaysia: ASEAN meetings open ahead of 47th ASEAN Summit

Kuala Lumpur, Oct 23 (Prensa Latina) The ASEAN Senior Officials' Meetings and other sessions ahead of the 47th ASEAN Summit and related events opened in Malaysia, which currently chairs the regional bloc.

La Kuala Lumpur Convention Center will host the summits from October 26 to 28 and serve as the stage for the pre-summit sessions, scheduled to pave the way for high-level ministerial engagements within the framework of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN).

The meeting of the Committee of Permanent Representatives (CPR) to ASEAN, to which Timor-Leste’s Ambassador ASEAN to ASEAN, Natercia Cipriana Coelho da Silva, and Abdul Aziz, Deputy Secretary-General of ASEAN for Political and Security Community, will attend, will be held in parallel.

Timor-Leste’s accession to the bloc is expected to take effect at the 47th Summit and would mark a historic milestone.

In addition to Malaysia, ASEAN members include Indonesia, Singapore, Thailand, the Philippines, Vietnam, Laos, Cambodia, Brunei, and Myanmar.

Malaysia has previously chaired ASEAN in 1977, 1997, 2005, and 2015.

Under the theme of “Inclusion and Sustainability,” Malaysia’s ASEAN Chairmanship 2025 noted that the 47th Summit and related meetings will be among the largest events in the bloc’s history and serve as a crucial platform for encouraging deeper collaboration.
