Sri Lankan newspapers reproduce Cuba’s complaint against US

Colombo, Oct 23 (Prensa Latina) The newspapers Lanka Leader, Sri Lanka Guardian, and Colombo Times republished Cuba's complaint about the United States' intimidation moves regarding the upcoming vote on the blockade at the United Nations.

The Sri Lankan publications published the full statements by Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez, which expose the US administration’s blackmail tactics to undermine international support for the lifting of Washington’s economic, commercial, and financial blockade against the Caribbean nation.

The foreign minister emphasized that the US government’s actions violate the sovereignty of States and the right of each nation to decide freely its vote at the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA).

Rodriguez presented copies of official communications sent by Washington to several governments in which, he affirmed, “crude pressure, direct threats, and slanderous arguments” are used to dissuade countries, especially in Latin America and Europe, from continuing their support against the economic, commercial, and financial blockade.

He explained that Washington’s pressure includes third countries’ refusal to supply spare parts or fuel to Cuba, as recently occurred with one of the country’s leading thermoelectric plants, directly affecting the national electrical system.

The minister stressed that this “illusory anxiety” shows the growing isolation of US foreign policy and its fear of another overwhelming condemnation at the General Assembly.

The UNGA will debate and vote on the resolution against the US blockade for the 33rd time on October 28-29.
