“As a result of the attack by the Ukrainian Armed Forces, the Belgorod Reservoir was damaged. We understand that the enemy could attempt another attack to completely destroy the dam,” the governor wrote.

Gladkov added that, if that were to happen, flooding of the river plain in the Kharkiv region and several populated areas is possible. The resulting emergency would affect approximately 1,000 people.

Authorities began offering temporary housing in Belgorod to residents at risk of flooding and who have no other options.

According to Gladkov, the areas most at risk are: in the village of Bezlyudovka, Pobeda, Kommunisticheskaya, and Rechnaya streets, Kommunistichesky lane; in Novaya Tavolzhanka, Grazhdanskaya, Zelenaya, Zarechnaya, Peschanaya, Dzerzhinsky, Kolkhoznaya, Shchorsa, Lugovaya, Komsomolskaya, Sadovaya, and Serikova streets; and in Shebekino, the Titovka microdistrict, and Nezhury Lane.

The Armed Forces of Ukraine carry out daily shelling of the border regions. Since August 2024, an anti-terrorist operation has been underway in the Belgorod region, and a federal emergency has been declared there.
