Moscow, Oct 27 (Prensa Latina) The Office of Arctic Development Projects (OPDA) announced the implementation of the first climate forest project covering 20,700 hectares in the Russian Arctic, the multinational TV channel TVBrics reported.

According to the report, the main objective of the project, which will be located at the Russian forestry station of Priuralsk, is to restore forest ecosystems, increase carbon storage, and develop a remote monitoring system for the territory.

The aforementioned plan will be carried out in collaboration with the Institute of Global Climate and Ecology and will be supported by the administration of the Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous Region and the Center for Sustainable Development of the Yamalo-Nenets Investment and Development Agency.

The platform can also be used to address these issues. The creation of investment funds related to green and low-carbon technologies is possible.

In this regard, OPDA’s Managing Director, Maxim Dankin, emphasized that the projects being developed in both the Arctic and Antarctica are also extremely important for the development of the entire planet Earth.
