Sri Lanka: US blockade causes immense suffering to Cuban people

Colombo, Oct 27 (Prensa Latina) Sri Lankan Patriotic National Movement (PNM)'s General Secretary Wasantha Bandara denounced that the unilateral economic measures of the United States have caused immense suffering to the people of Cuba for more than six decades.

The Lanka Leader newspaper reported that Bandara condemned what he described as illegal pressure from Washington on United Nations member states ahead of the General Assembly vote scheduled for October 28-29 on the Cuban resolution demanding the lifting of the US blockade against the island’s people.

The PNM leader also noted that Cuba has suffered enormous economic losses and humanitarian hardships due to illegal US measures, which have restricted access to essential goods such as fuel, medicine, and food.

He warned that Washington is trying to spread false information and intimidate countries in an effort to block international consensus supporting the Caribbean nation.

Bandara underscored, “The world has repeatedly voted in favor of Cuba at the United Nations, exposing the injustice and inhumanity of this decades-long blockade.”

He urged UN member states to resist such pressure and uphold justice and human dignity.
