The incident occurred off the port of Ierapetra, just one day after four migrants died in a similar incident off the island of Lesbos.
The Coast Guard reported that 57 migrants were transferred to Ierapetra, where they will undergo medical examination, according to information collected by the newspaper Kathimerini.
More than 200 people have died so far this year on the migrant route crossing the eastern Mediterranean and connecting with Greece, according to the International Organization for Migration (IOM), which has recorded more than 2,800 deaths since 2014. Greece was severely affected by the 2015 migration crisis, when more than one million people fled war and poverty in countries across the Middle East and Africa to reach Europe via highly dangerous routes.
