Early referendum campaign in Ecuador denounced

Quito, Oct 28 (Prensa Latina) The Ecuadoran faction Revolution Ciudadana (RC) denounced the misuse of public resources and an early campaign underway today in favor of the "Yes" vote in the popular consultation and referendum scheduled for November 16 in Ecuador.

The movement reported that it filed a formal complaint with the Electoral Contentious Tribunal (TCE) for acts of vote inducement and promotion of the “Yes” vote on official networks, in interviews, and in press releases by officials linked to the ruling National Democratic Action (ADN) movement.

The RC warned that these acts violate the principles of equality, neutrality, and transparency that must govern all electoral processes.

It also recalled that, according to Article 278 of the Code of Democracy, such actions may constitute serious infractions by public servants.

The official campaign is scheduled for November 1-13; However, the complaint alleges that the ruling party is already holding campaign events before the start of the authorized period.

Meanwhile, more than 30 social organizations have formed a national alliance to promote the “No” vote.

Among them are CONAIE, the United Workers’ Front (FUT), the National Union of Educators (UNE), as well as groups of women, retirees, environmentalists, and kidney patients.

“We will go to the neighborhoods, the communes, door to door, house to house,” said Andrés Quishpe, president of UNE, announcing a national mobilization for November 12.

Meanwhile, the Confederation of Indigenous Nationalities of Ecuador (CONAIE) emphasized that its struggle continues after a month of protests “against an authoritarian regime that responded with repression and criminalization,” the organization said in a statement released on the social media platform X.
