“When the opportunity arose to reunify Gaza with the West Bank under the leadership of the Palestinian National Authority (PNA), they (the Israelis) began to create obstacles, with war and destruction” in the coastal enclave, Mustafa denounced in an interview with the international Arabic-language daily Asharq Al-Awsat.
The Palestinian prime minister once again defended the PNA’s right to govern the Strip, devastated after two years of Israeli military aggression with the stated goal of destroying the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas), which has been in power there since 2007.
Regarding the future of Gaza, following the ceasefire reached this month, he called for a central role for the Authority in managing the territory’s affairs, including governance, security, and services.
He noted that this is a right under the Palestinian Basic Law, the Constitutional Law, the Oslo Accords, and several UN Security Council resolutions.
According to US President Donald Trump’s plan, Gaza would be governed in the short term by a group of independent Palestinian technocrats, assisted by an international body.
