Diaz-Canel celebrates diplomatic victory against US blockade at UN

Havana, Oct 29 (Prensa Latina) Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel celebrated the overwhelming support of the international community at the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), where 165 member states rejected the US blockade against Cuba.

The president emphasized on social media, “Cuba, dignified, resilient, without any fear of the turbulent, brutal, cynical, and lying empire, has once again defeated the six-decade-long genocidal US blockade.”

Diaz-Canel noted that “the crude Yankee (US) pressures managed to break a few. But the global majority once again voted alongside Cuba for Life.”

The Caribbean nation obtained 165 votes in favor of the resolution calling for an end to the US blockade, with seven votes against and 12 abstentions.

Experts from the Cuban Foreign Ministry (MINREX) highlighted, in special news segments, the symbolic value of the diplomatic victory, despite the pressure exerted by Washington on its allies to hinder the vote.

The vote marked the 33rd consecutive year that the United Nations has almost unanimously condemned this coercive policy, which the Cuban government denounces as the leading cause of the underdevelopment and economic difficulties that the island is facing.

“This day shows, once again, that the US blockade not only affects one country, but millions of Cubans in their right to development,” affirmed a MINREX expert, who emphasized that, although the resolution is not legally binding, it constitutes a moral, legitimate, and legal claim supported by the vast majority of the international community.
