Noboa travels to the US amid the electoral process in Ecuador

Quito, Nov. 2 (Prensa Latina) Ecuadorian President Daniel Noboa travels to the United States amid the election campaign leading up to the popular consultation and referendum he called for November 16.

The president will be in New York and Washington from November 2 to 4, dates that also coincide with the extended national holiday for All Souls’ Day and the 205th anniversary of Cuenca’s independence.

According to Executive Decree 201, Noboa will be accompanied by Foreign Minister Gabriela Sommerfeld; the Secretary General of Communication of the Presidency, Irene Velez; and the Secretary General of Public Integrity, Julio Jose Neira.

Details of the president’s official agenda are not yet available, although in an interview with Teleamazonas he mentioned that he expected to meet with his US counterpart, Donald Trump, “in two or three weeks.” He also indicated that he will request a leave of absence from his post to participate in the election campaign starting November 6.

He argued that, although the campaign period began the day before, he already has commitments scheduled for the coming days, including his trip to the United States and his second visit to Quito on November 5 and 6 with U.S. Secretary of Homeland Security Kristi Noem.

Noboa is one of the Latin American presidents with the closest ties to the Donald Trump administration.

Even so, last March, the Foreign Ministry acknowledged hiring a lobbying firm in Washington to secure a state visit by the Ecuadorian president to the White House.
