In statements published by the press here, the diplomat emphasized that Syria is the main strategic issue for Ankara, considering the stability and territorial integrity of the Arab country essential for peace throughout the region.
The Syrian issue is multifaceted for Türkiye, encompassing matters of migration, security, the fight against drug trafficking, intelligence, and regional stability, the official said.
He pointed out that if peace is achieved in Syria, stability will prevail throughout the Middle East, and if war breaks out, it will affect all neighboring countries.
Yılmaz emphasized that his government is mobilizing all institutional resources to support the Syrian state in its reconstruction and stabilization efforts, and is working to create regional coordination mechanisms to address common challenges.
A strong and independent Syria is key to genuine and lasting solutions, he asserted.
Regarding the military sphere, the official stated that Türkiye is prepared to offer assistance in restructuring the Syrian army, should Damascus request it, and confirmed that several Syrian soldiers are already receiving training on Turkish soil, with the aim of building a truly national army capable of combating terrorism.
Everything that happens in Syria has a direct impact on Türkiye, whether due to terrorism or the presence of more than three million Syrian refugees, he explained.
