Following his electoral victory, Milei accelerates the privatization

Buenos Aires, November 3 (Prensa Latina) Following his victory in the legislative elections, which resulted in a more amenable Congress, Javier Milei's administration is speeding up its ambitious privatization agenda, including strategic transportation and energy assets that will be transferred to private hands.

The Javier Milei administration will finalize the bidding processes for highways and four major hydroelectric dams in November, while also defining the details for submitting to the new Congress, starting December 10, the list of companies that could be privatized in a second phase of his administration, reports the news channel C5N.

The Casa Rosada, under the control of the libertarians, wants to privatize many state-run companies and will seek to send clear signals in the coming weeks that the privatization process is underway and will not be stopped—an agenda that reminds political observers of Carlos Menem’s policies in the 1990s.

At the Ministry of Economy and the Agency for the Transformation of Public Enterprises, they are finalizing the details to reveal which company will win the concession for the so-called Mercosur Route, which connects four member countries.

This is the first route to be granted under Milei’s administration. Seven bids were submitted, according to C5N.

The preliminary award is expected within the next two weeks.

Furthermore, on Friday the 7th, the bids for the reprivatization of four key hydroelectric dams will be revealed.

The government seeks to raise up to $700 million for these projects, the television station reports. According to market sources, the four current operators, which are AES Argentina (Alicura), Enel (El Chocon and Arroyito), Central Puerto (Piedra del Aguila) and Orazul (Cerros Colorados), will submit bids to take over the dam they are in charge of and perhaps for some of the others.
