Syria fights poverty and promotes women’s empowerment

Damascus, Nov 3 (Prensa Latina) Syrian Minister of Social Affairs Hind Qabawat stated that the fight against poverty is an absolute priority, acknowledging that nearly 90% of Syrians live below the poverty line.

In statements quoted by the Eram Business website, Qabawat emphasized that her Ministry is working on job training programs and women’s empowerment initiatives as pillars of national recovery.

“We focus our work on people, on their daily lives, on how to improve their well-being and restore their sense of belonging to the State through a genuine social protection system that preserves their dignity,” the official stated.

The minister explained that investment is the natural path to job creation and highlighted the importance of providing professional training to the Syrian workforce to facilitate their immediate entry into the labor market.

“We need investment, but we also need skilled people.

That is why we are concentrating our efforts on vocational training and job reintegration,” she asserted.

Qabawat argued that the success of the economic transition requires updating labor laws in place since 1958, adapting them to new market realities and the need to promote productivity and equity.

Regarding women’s empowerment, Qabawat indicated that 70% of the ministry’s staff is female, and she advocated for the implementation of quota systems to guarantee female representation in the public administration.
