Israel holds more than 9,250 Palestinians in prison

Ramallah, Nov 6 (Prensa Latina) More than 9,250 Palestinians, including 350 children and 49 women, are currently held in Israeli jails, sources linked with the issue denounced.

The Prisoners and Ex-Prisoners’ Affairs Commission, the Palestinian Prisoners Club (PPC), and the Addameer Foundation stated that this figure does not include a large number of people held in camps controlled by the Israeli Army.

Of that total, 3,368 are being held under the controversial administrative detention law, and 1,205 others were classified as “illegal combatants.”

Defense Minister Israel Katz signed an order this month barring the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) from accessing Palestinian prisoners under this designation, a move that several NGOs condemned.

The Palestinian government, political parties, and non-governmental organizations have denounced in the last few months the increased repression in those detention centers since the beginning of the current cycle of violence in October 2023.

The Palestinian Prisoner Information Office warned that thousands of compatriots held in Israel are suffering a parallel war in prisons due to systematic policies of starvation, medical neglect, torture, and isolation.

The Palestinian Center for Prisoners’ Advocacy accused Israel of practicing State terrorism against detainees and called on the United Nations to take action against these violations.
