Angolan religious leaders hold a service in honor of independence

Luanda, Nov 8 (Prensa Latina) The November 11 Stadium in Luanda is hosting an ecumenical service to commemorate the 50th anniversary of Angola's independence, with an expected attendance of some 50,000 worshippers.

Under the theme “Angola 50 Years of National Independence: Jubilee in Christ,” the event is part of the official commemoration program, and therefore, key figures from the government and political spheres are expected to participate.

The Angolan Inter-Church Commission, responsible for coordinating the liturgy, stated that the stadium was prepared to receive attendees three hours prior to the start.

Buses have been arranged to depart from various locations in Luanda and the provinces of Icolo and Bengo to transport those wishing to attend the ceremony.

According to the organizers, the religious community will unite in Thanksgiving to ask for blessings upon the country, reflect on its history, and promote unity among all Angolans.

Among the denominations participating in the service are those belonging to the Council of Christian Churches in Angola, the Episcopal Conference of Angola and São Tome, the Evangelical Alliance of Angola, the Angolan Christian Forum, and independent churches.

Security and medical care measures have also been arranged at the stadium, taking into account the expected number of attendees and the extended duration of the service, which is expected to last more than two hours.
