Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Guo Jiakun stated that the Japanese government’s decision to award the “Order of the Rising Sun, Grand Ribbon” to Xie Changting is another misguided act concerning the island.
Guo underscored that Taiwan is at the core of China’s core interests and an insurmountable red line for bilateral relations.
The spokesperson also affirmed that the award violates the principles established in the Four Political Documents between China and Japan.
He recalled that 2025 marks the 80th anniversary of the victory in the Chinese People’s War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War, as well as the 80th anniversary of Taiwan’s restoration.
Tensions between the two Asian countries are escalating over the Taipei issue, as Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi made controversial statements less than a week ago regarding Japan’s response if Taiwan is attacked.
