In an interview with The Washington Post, widely reported in the national press here, Al-Shara noted that Damascus shares strategic interests with Moscow and needs Russia’s vote in support of certain issues.
“We do not want to pressure Russia to adopt other options in its relationship with Syria,” the president stated.
The Syrian head of State acknowledged that bilateral relations are still in an initial stage and revealed that the issue of former President Bashar al-Assad is “controversial” for Moscow.
“We will maintain our right to demand that Assad be brought to justice,” the Syrian interim president concluded.
