Broadcast on the Razones de Cuba (Reasons of Cuba) program, one of the cornerstones of this hostility, the challenge is the scheme of currency trafficking and tax evasion on the island, employing Cuban-born operators based in the United States and other countries.
The accusation directly targeted El Toque, a purportedly independent digital media outlet that specializes in providing economic, legal, and public service information to Cuban communities. It underscored that this operation uses US taxpayer money.
The program revealed reports about the allocation of funds to the Media Plux Experience and Mas Voces Foundations companies, registered in the name of El Toque’s director, Jose Jasan Nieves.
It revealed that a portion of those funds is used to promote leaders among non-state economic actors and facilitate the illegal trafficking of freely convertible currencies in the Caribbean nation.
Actions taken in 2024 by Xavier Billingsley, Deputy Chief of Public Affairs at the US Embassy in Havana, and evidence of the participation of several individuals in operations designed to provoke an inflationary crisis in Cuba, were presented.
The attendees asserted that the allegations confirm that, as Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez announced in late October, Cuba investigated the national inflationary phenomenon and gathered evidence of the comprehensive economic warfare program perpetrated by the United States.
Razones de Cuba is a web platform founded 15 years ago, dedicated to practicing journalism that challenges the narratives imposed by hegemonic media.
