Luanda, Nov 14 (Prensa Latina) The president of the National Assembly of the People’s Power of Cuba (parliament), Esteban Lazo, concluded his visit to Angola today with tributes to important figures in the history of both countries.

Early this Friday morning, the head of the State Council of the Caribbean nation and the delegation that accompanied him on this trip paid tribute to the country’s first president, Antonio Agostinho Neto, at the memorial named after him.

In the book of the institution, Lazo highlighted the special moment in which this encounter with the Angolan soil occurred, just when the country is commemorating 50 years of independence, the establishment of diplomatic relations between both nations and the start of Operation Carlota.

“Cuba and Angola are fraternal peoples in the common struggle against colonialism, apartheid and imperialism, for the independence and national sovereignty of Angola, faithful to the deep friendship between Fidel Castro and Agostinho Neto,” he wrote.

He added that current generations are committed to continue the legacy of both historical leaders, consolidating friendship, solidarity and cooperation between the two fraternal peoples.

Lazo also paid tribute to Jose Eduardo Dos Santos, who led the country’s destinies from 1979 until 2017.

The Cuban delegation also recalled the commander Raul Diaz-Argüelles, in the burial mound of Alto de las Cruces where he was buried who was the first head of the Cuban military mission in Angola.

Collaborators from the Caribbean nation who serve here participated in the tribute, after which they exchanged with the President of the Parliament.
