Diaz-Canel toured areas severely damaged by the storm the previous day and, in a post on his Twitter account, commented on his return to the hardest-hit communities in the municipality of Rio Cauto, in the eastern province of Granma.
“The resources are arriving and will continue to do so,” the head of state assured to the victims. He also reported on his visit “to the field hospital donated by India, which has been very well received there, and for which we once again thank that sister nation.”
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Manuel Marrero, on the same social media platform, referred to “the exchange with residents of the communities of El Mango and Guamo, affected by the unprecedented flooding of Cauto River.”
The prime minister learned about the efforts underway to erase the traces of Melissa, but stated, “Much work remains, and everyone’s participation is essential for our recovery.”
The powerful hurricane Melissa struck Cuba’s eastern provinces on October 29, causing millions of dollars in material damage, but no loss of life was reported.
