The House of Friendship of the Argentine Movement of Solidarity with Cuba (MASCuba) in Buenos Aires was the ideal venue for the commemoration, which drew a large audience who listened attentively to the speakers.
The event served to remember and reiterate their support for the revolutionary leader and his people during these difficult times, marked by an epidemic, the recovery efforts following a devastating hurricane, and the harmful effects of Washington embargo.
Ruben Zaccaro, one of the leaders of MASCuba, opened the commemoration, followed by Hugo Fontana, one of the Argentinian professionals who traveled to Cuba after the triumph of the revolution to contribute with his expertise as an architect to the island’s nascent development. Next, it was the turn of Stella Calloni, an Argentine political scientist; then Esteban Luchetta spoke.
The head of the Mission, Jorge Marti, contributed to the commemoration, and Erenia Garcia, president of the Union of Cuban Residents in Argentina (URCA), closed the event.
Zacaro remembered how Fidel Castro revived the emancipatory thought of the independence hero Jose Marti in the centennial year of his birth and launched the attack on the Moncada Barracks, which was the spark that later ignited the revolution.
