Technicians and workers from the sector repaired the severe damage to the locomotive and train cars caused by the accident in San Jose neighborhood of Tibas, which forced the temporary suspension of some operations, added the Costa Rican Railway Institute (Incofer), as quoted by the newspaper.
The institution guaranteed the restoration of service this Monday on the trains that connect the capital with the northern provinces of Heredia and Alajuela, after a thorough inspection of the railway by specialists.
The crew members and the 12 injured passengers were declared stable and recovering, although still suffering the psychological effects of the incident, after receiving medical attention, explained the local Red Cross.
“We confirm,” stated a press release from Incofer, “that all services are scheduled as normal, allowing us to guarantee safe operation.”
Company personnel properly evacuated the 100 people traveling in the train cars following Friday’s accident.
