Two individuals on a motorcycle fired at the building yesterday and threw a rock with a threatening message directed at the institute’s director, Ana Juanche, allegedly due to recent transfers of members of criminal gangs within the former Comcar prison.
This is not the first time an attack of this kind has occurred. In 2004, two people fired at the building and left a letter addressed to the then-director, Luis Mendoza.
In September, Attorney General Monica Ferrero survived an attack involving gunfire and a grenade at her home, for which seven individuals allegedly linked to drug trafficking groups have been charged.
Vice President Carolina Cosse stated on social media that the INR director was “the victim of a cowardly threat intended to intimidate her.”
“The fight against organized crime is a long-standing one and allows for nothing less than closing ranks to combat it, without any minor speculation of any kind,” reacted the Minister of Education and Culture, Jose Carlos Mahia.
