Bolivia has a new Minister of Mining and Metallurgy

La Paz, Nov 18 (Prensa Latina) Marco Antonio Calderon de la Barca was sworn in by President Rodrigo Paz as Bolivia's new Minister of Mining and Metallurgy, tasked with promoting a new law in this sector.

“The challenges, Mr. Minister, are extraordinary. A new Mining Law, modern, agile, and adapted to our vision of Bolivia in the world and the world in Bolivia,” the president stated during the swearing-in ceremony held at the Casa Grande del Pueblo (the government headquarters), emphasizing the need for “agile and modern” legislation.

He also remarked that there are “different representations within the mining sector, and all are part of a vision for the development of the nation, a vision of contribution and growth.”

Paz said that his administration is promoting the elimination of what he calls a “blocking state” in favor of an agile, flexible, and intelligent one, and within this framework, they will support all sectors that contribute to the nation.

He thanked the new authority for its willingness to join the effort at a difficult time and in the “organization of a State that for more than 20 years was led by the Movement for Socialism,” whose results Paz has repeatedly criticized throughout the presidential campaign and in his first week at the head of the Executive Branch.

According to Paz, the country is experiencing an institutional crisis and crises in various sectors, one of which is mining, “the largest generator of foreign exchange.”
